MY LOCAL NEWS] Uyo event day 19: Mkpat Enin cultural and traditional day
Mkpat Enin cultural/traditional day celebration which took place today 19th December, 2023 at the Uyo Christmas village, Nigeria has become the top news in the state after their wonderful performance of cultural heritage.
The people rolled out their drums for this great occasion. The re-union of the stake holders and the entire people of Mkpat Enin local government area during this season means sons and daughters of Mkpat Enin from all works of life both the young and the old can converge.
Visitors were entertained and educated about the basic culture and tradition of the people of Mkpat Enin. Indigenes were also urge to hold firm their culture and heritage as it is one of their greatest inheritance from their forefathers.
The event was graced by a highly placed citizen of the State with her entourage, the the wife of the state governor of Akwa Ibom state, Pastor Patience Umo Eno who is also from Mkpat Enin local government area.
As part of their activities today, the people of Mkpat Enin came with a unique style for their cultura/traditional day for the purpose of entertainment and education.
In one of the dramas they acted in the arena, they created a coronation event which portrayed how a traditional ruler in Mkpat Enin is crown as their ruler and they further showcase the events that follows after the coronation.
The drama was interesting to the point of catching everyone's attention as people were all curious to know what use to happen during coronation.
During the events, a palace was created by the organizers for the traditional ruler, a section for their special guests, chiefs, and the community people with village square.
They have ambience of festivity in a traditional setting just as it's obtainable in the villages.
Among the cultural creativities they displayed today during the event was the big elephant which represents the local government of Mkpat enin.
During his spech of appreciation, the local government area chairman Hon. (Prince) Anieokpon E. Ekpo expressed his gratitude to God and all the people who joined this great event.
"I want to first of all thank the wife of the state governor who willingly come to this event. And just before we proceed, I want to explain a little thing.
Mkpat Enin means elephant's leg and so the elephant you are seeing now is symbolic and it takes us way back to our origin. Don't be scared, it won't hurt you.

As part of their culture, they showcase their food and also educate people on how it can be prepared.

The name of their local government area is "Mkpat Enin" which means elephant leg.
So, this particular elephant is their origin and it has a lot to do with their history.
That's why if you noticed, it is the most protected cultural display in that arena. Infact without this elephant, this day is not complete and won't hold.
Yes! Nigerians have a lot to do when it comes to tradition and culture..., basically, I think it’s almost the same thing in all the African countries.
Sometimes, the story behind some of this culture and tradition move the young ones to explore it.
In my own judgement, the African drum comes with some great vibes that triggers most especially young people because of it's sweet rhythm and excitement😅
The energy that comes immediately their drumming and music get started is on a different level.
