On the 14th day of December, 2023 Ikot Ekpene people storm the cultural event center which happened to be chrismas village, Uyo.

The local government area chairman of Ikot Ekpene Hon. Uyime Okon Etim was at the event to encourage his people and to educate young folks about culture and tradition of Ikot Ekpene.

He expressed his gratitude unbehalf of his people to the members of theUK embassy who also came to witness this event .

”Today is a great day for all of us and a day to remember. I want to thank the state government for making this arrangement. I specifically want to thank the state governor of Akwa Ibom state His excellency pastor Umoh Enoh who is so intelligent to bring culture and tourism to this year chrismas village events. This is our culture and we must preserve it with all amount of seriousness. I am glad to see different background of people coming to witness our day. I want to thank the members of the UK embassy who have always supported our culture. Today would remain a memorable day and I want the young generation to always remember today and continue with this traditions.”- Hon.Uyime Etim

Varrious traditional symbols anf their representation were displayed of which most are related to the African origin.

It is a convergence of custodians of culture and tradition in Uyo. Among the traditional play displayed were : the Masquerades, traditional dance , ekpo ikpe annang, mbopo , traditional drama to spice up the atmosphere.

Traditional leaders/rulers were also having some great moments with their colleagues and also encouraging the young generation to learn from them.

They stressed the importance of remaining united as a region as it is the only way to achieve a common positive goal.

"Unity and team work is the only way to success. My people are always known for their co-operating
spirit and hardworking personality. Over the years we have proven that we are not just hardworking people but people with better plans to actualize a vision and this is only possible through our team work. It is my utmost desire that we continue with this nature and may our children, grand children and even great grand children maintain our dear culture and heritage.
Akwa Ibom is one, Nigeria is one, don't allow foreign lifestyle to influence you to forget your background otherwise we would lose it. I wish all of us here a peaceful celebration, a lovely Christmas and a prosperous new year". - Eteidung Nkanga Isang (community head).

The theme for this year's cultural convergence is "preserving our culture and pride".

Older women also known as women leaders sieze the opportunity to teach young women some traditional norms, believes and etiquettes of African women.
