We drove 2.5 hr one way to get Hooligan, in the rain and wind. We had rain gear, but still ended up soaked. It was an all day event.

So I will start with the views on the way there.

We finally made it, and they have port-a-shitters! Yay!!

So we set up next to the bridge, and walk down the rocks.

So the object is to have your net open and the tail pointing upstream. Then you sweep down strem to the oncoming fish.

Not all nets where full, we would get two to eight in a net at a time. But it does add up!

We switched out a few times. It’s harder then you would think!

We fished for about an hour and got about 500 fish according to @alaskatactical

Then we drove home and started to clean them.
So we, as homeschoolers, examined the fishes characteristics.

It took 5 hours to clean all the fish, we had the kids helping.

We are going to smoke more and jar them.

Lots of amazing views there!
Those fish are a lot smaller then I pictured, so how did they taste? Good?

Yeah they are small, but there is no limit. Trying to convince the hubby to get more. But I don’t know if it will happen. We rented a truck to do dump runs, spring cleaning 😕

I don’t know personally how good they are. I was still gutting, and bagging while everyone else was eat’em. There is some in the fridge for me to try though.
Hubby was able to jar some too. He has the attention span of a small child some days, oooo shiny. So annoying, the kids and I gut all the fish. He smoked them.

lmao! oooo shiny... too funny! 🤣

compliments!!!

We were just talking about Hooligan (AKA Candlefish... because they are so oily you can literally catch them on fire after they dehydrated a little) at the office today. I am a fellow Alaska as well. Great catch!

Thanks, yeah you can light them on fire. When I told my kids you could burn them when they are dry, my kids tried with a fish tail in our fire pit. LOL They also pop and sizzle.

I joined to try ya all out.
