Nyaung Shwe

Nyaung Shwe is located in the southern shan state, on the bank of the Inlay Lake, 2950 ft above sea level. It has hot and wet climate. The population is about 180000 according to the last update information 2014. 95% are buddhist. National races are Inthars, Pao, Shan, Bamar, Kayan, Kachin, Kayar, Danu. Main products are rice, sugar-cane, garlic, varities of bean, cheroot leaf. Most of the people are farmers.
Nyaung Shwe was reigned by 33 dynasty of Shan Sawbwas. The first one was Hsi Hseng Pha. He founded this town in myanmar era 721. The name of the town is Nyaung Shwe because of the golden banyan tree. Before myanmar era 1269, there were five quarters only, Myole, Kanthar, Mingalar, Nampan and Win Yat. In myanmar era 1269, the palace was destroyed by fire, at the period of Sir Sao Maung Sawbwa. So, he extended new quarter such as Thazi, Minle, and Nandawin. And then he built a new palace in extension area. That's why nowadays there are eight quarters. There are seven monestries, one cilvil hospital, two libraries and one market. The last sawbwa was Sao Shwe Thite(first president of myanmar) after independence. The old compound of the palace is now independence monument compound and night market.
