My 2018: A Tour around my town: "The Garden City" Maracay, Venezuela
MARACAY "The Garden City" - VENEZUELA
Right at the entrance to the city, we found a bronze jaguar with the following inscription: "Maracay, crossroads of all roads. Rose of the winds open to all wills ".
PLAZA BOLIVAR
Plaza Bolívar is the most culturally iconic site of the Garden City. This square has a measure of 320 meters long by 160 meters wide and was inaugurated in December 1930 to commemorate the centenary of the death of the liberator Simón Bolívar. For many years it was considered the largest Plaza Bolivar in Latin America, with a large space of green areas, with benches, lanterns and light sources; recently this square was restored so that visitors enjoy a unique outdoor moment. It was declared a national historical monument on April 15, 1994.
CATHEDRAL OF MARACAY
The Cathedral of Maracay is a characteristic and historical site of the Garden City. At present, the cathedral is the episcopal seat of the Diocese of Maracay. This was created in the colonial era, and since the mid-seventeenth century has provided Catholics with a place to pray and practice the Catholic faith. Being located on Avenida Bolívar with Avenida Mariño, it is located in the downtown area of the city, along with other sites worth visiting such as Plaza Girardot, Plaza Bicentenaria and the Museum of History and Anthropology.
SINDONI TOWER
With approximately 125 meters high, and its 32 floors, it is the tallest skyscraper in the city. It is one of the most recent constructions of height, and of course a reference of our beautiful city, was inaugurated in the year 1999
It is located between two of the most important avenues of the city, from this tower we have a spectacular view from any point of Maracay.
MAESTRANZA CÉSAR GIRÓN
This square was inaugurated by President Juan Vicente Gómez in 1933, was the first bullring in Venezuela, is inspired by the Bullring of the Real Maestranza de Caballería de Sevilla, and was designed by the Venezuelan architect Carlos Raúl Villanueva . There are still important runs, in the month of March during the fair of San José, patron of the city.
THEATER OPERA
The Theater Opera Maracay (T.O.M), is also characterized by being an icon of the city of Maracay, it was built in 1932 and was inaugurated in 1973. On its stage there have been great concerts of symphony orchestras, theater, dance, among other shows National and international. Over the years it has been improving and its most recent remodeling has allowed notable improvements in infrastructure. At night it has a light show, which adorn its exterior, and draws the attention of everyone who observes it.
AERONAUTICAL MUSEUM
Maracay, besides being called the garden city, is also considered the birthplace of Venezuelan aviation, in this wonderful city we can find the "Luis Hernán Paredes Aeronautical Museum" this is a collection of military and civil aeronautical technology managed by the National Aviation of Venezuela predestined to conserve, restore and safeguard the historical aeronautical heritage of the nation.
The magic that made it possible for us to enjoy the skies as birds, those ingenious machines that lifted us to the heights not only to move from one place to another in less time, but also has given us beautiful views; the airplanes.
If you want to know a little about the history of these giant winged ones, this is an amazing place to start; has an exhibition that contains more than 40 airplanes from different periods of Venezuelan aviation, and among one of the most outstanding in history is the so-called "La Vaca Sagrada" this is a four-engine Douglas C-54 aircraft " Skymaster ", and it was the plane that Marcos Pérez Jiménez, the then dictator and president of Venezuela, used in 1958 when he was forced to leave the country with his family to Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic during the coup d'état.
This particular museum has to give you a big load of knowledge about the aircraft and its history, do not miss the opportunity to fly on the mainland for a day.
The Obelisk of Maracay
The Obelisk of Maracay is a vertical structure of 15 meters high that is one of the icons of the state of Aragua, Venezuela. It was remodeled for the last time in August 2015 which includes improvements to the gardens lighting systems and the fountains surrounding the Obelisco square.
During the day it receives different visitors, although during the night it also offers great views thanks to the lighting and the fountain, which is one of the attractions when visiting Maracay.
At the entrance to the city is an obelisk in which all the recipients are located and it is one of the traditional works for the visit to know one of the historical icons.
