As hopeless as it sounds the answer is YES. Where I stay in Porthacourt, we have at least 20 hours of light per day and I'm not not exaggerating. This is a glimpse of hope as to a better power efficient Nigeria.

Let us start with the fact that its the same Nigeria that has power supply issues that giveGhana and Benin republic with power. If you didn't know this before well now you do and check for more facts if you think I'm lying.

With that being said, you can only imagine why a country that can supply power to other countries doesn't have a stable power of it's own.

Nigeria has up to three dams with kainji dam as it's major dam. The current produced from only kainji dam was so much that it had to be given out. This resulted to the sharing of power to other countries.

Also, the northerners have set up wind turbines that generate electricity but still we don't see the light.

Everything I've said so far is to give you a picture of how much current Nigeria has currently. So why isn't there light.

The answer is simple, CORRUPTION.

From corrupt power controlling staffs aka (NEPA) to billionaire generator importers that pay power holding companies to reduce the amount of current supplied to make people use thier products. The most heartbreaking part is that when the power is sent from the national power grid via high tension wires to the local power stations, The local power station operators literally hud the amount of electricity that is given out every day. That is why you experiences some situations where there are blinking light or flashing as we Nigerians call it.

Knowing this, the only way to resolve this issue is to fight corruption. Paying your bills on time to avoid illegal recconection that will fosters excess power usage on the transformers. Also our leaders should be aware of the internal sources of power rather than wasting billions of naira on killowats every year.

We Nigerians have to fight this power issue together because solving this issue is a great step to a better future.
