Life On The Road ~ A Musician's Diary

My show was so packed last night that people were spilling out into adjoining rooms for extra seating. I've been playing for these folks for six years or so now and it's better every year. I've tried going and setting up early when I'm in town to try to quietly set up and slip out till my show, but they are always there waiting. I've gone more than two hours before my show and there are a half dozen of them waiting for me to show up. Gosh man, it's not like you need a wrist band for my show there :joy: I am the last one to know why they come so early. Well, I suppose because it does get really full, and you know how people are, they love sitting in the same place if that's their habit.

I had a really great show with a ton of interaction. People were singing along and dancing, and for me, that's what it's all about. One of the guys there has a girlfriend who drives to his residence and spends most weekends with him I would think. They are in their upper 70s I should think, and they were high school sweethearts. Amazing to think that there's a very good chance he was dipping her hair in an open ink well in a one room school house like Little House On The Prairie.

He still gets up to dance with his girl even though he uses a cane now and he knows he won't be able to dance for much longer. I'm deeply moved by the effort he makes, and they are just so very happy together. I imagine it's a little difficult for others to see them so in love when they are so alone. Most, with few exceptions, were married for many decades, so I am very sure that the music brings back a flood of memories for them.

If I get to do this for another 25 years, I'm sure the majority of injuries in seniors homes will be from twerking. Can't wait to see that :joy:
