Grandpa Charlie's Blog Fest

Being new to Steemit, I should give you a little background about myself. I picked up my first guitar at the age of 14 in 1969. Within 3 years, I learned how to play over 30 cover tunes by listening to vinyl records and buying sheet music. Music has always been my first love.

Getting into the workforce was a challenge for me. Though I was good in school with high grades in math and science, the job market for Boomers was cut throat to say the least. I took what I could get, which turned out to be high turnover jobs that paid minimum wage. I tried college but had to drop out when the grants ran out. Student loans didn't cover everything and working after school caused my grades to plummet. I finally got into trucking over the road back in the early 90's. It paid well but, time at home was minimal.

In 2008, I bought my first PC and started surfing the web. I was amazed at all the information available at my fingertips. I knew that I was going to retire soon, so I was hoping to write a book or do something that would generate income. I also began buying equipment for a home studio. Of course, I came across many of the get rich scams that were out there. All of them made the other guy richer. After getting a case of information overload, I decided to focus on my music. I started my YouTube channel to teach my grandchildren, who live out of state, how to record themselves.

Now that I am retired from trucking, my home studio is nearly complete. I built 2 high powered computers designed for content creation just by watching YouTube videos. I picked up some new guitars, a bass, an Alesis eDrum set and a MIDI controller keyboard. I recently purchased the PreSonus Studio One 4 Professional recording software. It's complicated but well worth figuring out with all the new virtual instruments it came with.

I'm looking forward to the journey of creating a new "space rock" CD and some new music videos to promote them. These are great times, in many respects, for musicians and content creators. We can bypass "the man" and self publish our work, in spite of the crack down on dissident thought that Silicon Valley seeks to impose upon us. This too will pass!
