Before Steemfest (1): Music from Poland
Steemfest 3 in Kraków, Poland getting closer and closer. I'm happy that some of you will come to my country and see Kraków, one of the finest cities in Europe.
I've set a very personal list of 10 songs of Polish artists that you should know before you come to Poland. My country is not a musical giant at the level of Great Britain or the USA, but we also have something to be proud of.
1. Frédéric Chopin
We start with classical music. Of course, the most famous Polish composer is Fryderyk Chopin. Every lover of classical music has had the opportunity to listen to his funeral march or mazurkas at least once in his life. There is Chopin Street in every city in Poland. There is also one in Krakow, but there is nothing interesting to see there. Just listen to the music!
2. Behemoth
Now something from a completely different... If you like guitars, loud sound and Slayer is your favorite band, it's quite possible that you know Behemoth. These guys know how to paint on their faces and frighten the old ladies...
3. Nosowska
It's time for the first lady. Listen to Nosowska. She started over 20 years ago with typical rock music Hey, but now she experiments with new sounds. Besides, she has a nice wig in this clip ;)
4. Discopolo
Discopolo is the original music genre in Poland. It is a quite kitschy combination of 80's disco music with the wedding and folk songs. Many people in Poland listen to discopolo, although sometimes they are ashamed of it :) At the wedding party, we have a lot of fun dancing to these beats.... after drinking two bottles of good vodka. Have fun!
5. Krzysztof Penderecki
From the party, we're moving to the philharmonic hall. If you are a lover of contemporary music, then if you do not know, you should meet Krzysztof Penderecki. For over 50 years he has been composing world-famous works. He is also an author of film music, just like another Polish composer Jan P. Kaczmarek.
6. Warsaw Village Band
There is something for lovers of folk music. I would like to welcome you to the Polish countryside! Warsaw Village Band is a good combination of alternative music with folk songs from a few hundred years ago. By the way, notice how the Polish countryside looks like.
7. Dawid Podsiadło
It's time for the younger generation! Dawid Podsiadło is a very talented pop songwriter. He is modest, well arranged, has a good sense of humor and is at the top of the charts! It's worth listening to him because he's a real young music star in Poland.
8. Sokół
There is also quite a lot of rap and hip-hop music in Poland. It is a very popular genre. Let's listen to one of the most famous rappers, Sokół, who is the ancestor of the famous Polish poet and painter Stanislaw Wyspiański.
9. Zamilska
Quite a lot of girls in Poland sings and makes interesting music. It's hard to choose one, but Zamilska is one of the most interesting personalities in the Polish music industry. You can listen to her minimalist techno in a dark techno club, sometimes . Good beat!
10. Jacaszek
At the very end, it's time for some ambient music. Jacaszek is a very interesting artist. He combines electronic instruments, samples, field recordings and classical instruments in his music. He has already released a lot of records, so if you like such experiments you will surely find in his work well. It's a good idea to listen to his music before bedtime.
I'm sure that tomorrow this personal list of my suggestions would look completely different. As you could see there is a lot of interesting and various music in Poland. Do you know any other music group from here? Let me know in the comments!
Oh I love this!!!! I do posts like this (almost) every week called Travel Tunes Tuesday. It's songs I've heard from around the world.
Hope to be able to add some Polish ones to the list soon! I'm SO close to getting there
