19 notes in an octave!!

in #music5 years ago

So I have made music made with 19 notes instead of the usual 12, here's the science part...

A lot of music has been written using just 7 notes (the Major diatonic scale as found on the white notes of a piano) which has 5 large two step intervals and 2 smaller one step intervals. Turns out a 19 note octave can be used with a sort of major scale with the large interval being 3 steps and the small interval 2 steps.

Why do this? The familiar 12 note system is a sort of compromise that puts some intervals more in tune than others, Minor and Major are the furthest off. In 19 these intervals, especially a minor 3rd, are more in tune at the expense of the 5th (think rock power chord) giving it a different flavour.

The other notes are like the black piano notes but sharps and flats are different things!! and there is an E#/Fd and B#/Cd note as well.
Most music in normal tuning can be easily translated into this tuning, or you can play weird things not possible in 12 tone.

By for now
