Rock n Roll Thursday - Talking Heads + The Waterboys + STEEM GIVEAWAY
Get your air guitar out, its time for the weekly dose of Rock n Roll! Two great tracks to groove on.
Following last week's successful giveaway, there's a chance to win more Steem just by dropping your favourite rock track in the comments. Full details on how to enter at the bottom of the post.
The Music
Its 1977, and Talking Heads are tearing up the place with Pyscho Killer. The stomping bassline of this song is absolutely beastly, it really drives the song!
Best Lyric:
I can't sleep, 'cause my bed's on fire / Don't touch me, I'm a real live wire
Back in modern day, here are The Waterboys with I Can See Elvis. The guitar is beautifully hypnotic but its the lyrics that really make this song. It tells the story of a load of famous dead people having a blast in heaven - sounds like a helluva party!
Best Lyric:
I can see Elvis / Throned like a king astride a golden Harley /Smoking a reefer he just rolled / Full of acapulco gold /With Jimi Hendrix and Bob Marley
For those new to this -
The format works like this. One Retro Throwback, anything from the 60s & 70s or 80s; and One Modern Masterpiece, from the 90s onwards.
Steem Giveaway!
I want to boost engagement with this Rock n Roll weekly series, and Steemit has been kind to me since I joined, so for the next few weeks, im gonna be giving away 2.5 Steem to whoever leaves the most rocking Retro Throwback & Modern Masterpiece track in the comments.
I will be the judge (no 'comment with the most votes wins' here - this is a benevolent dictatorship). You can get a clue as to what I enjoy by looking through previous editions of Rock n Roll Thursday.
There are 2 criteria for valid entry:
- Upvote
- Re-Steem
I'm looking forward to listening to some cool stuff - Rock On!
I really if i fit or not, but this is a song that i really love
Absolute Classic! I used to play this live - its such good fun and gets people dancing.
I am also posting daily music and mostly it is good music. :D
when the winner will be announced? :D
Would have to be this wouldn't it??
Great choice - difficult to argue with Tenacious D!
Although XXXTENTACION is primarily a rapper, the song bellow called "Garette's Revenge" is most probably the furthest thing away from Hip Hop or anything similar to it. Lately, this is the first song I listen to when I wake up and the last one I listen to before going to sleep, and I am certainly not a rap-head.
A blast from the past:
Something newer: (almost as old as me though :P)
The song above is Mountain's Mississippi Queen. It reminds me of a theme song for people who just came to fuck shit up...lol.
For my modern era tune I felt like a bit of take out and went with System of a Down's Chop Suey (below)
I'd not heard Mississippi Queen before - thanks for the discovery! And its been far too long since I last listened to Chop Suey!
My pleasure on the tune. I've got all sorts of stuff as I'm a sponge for music. My mom heard me listening to a blues song one day and asked if I was 60 years old cause she told me she never knew anyone younger than that to listen to such music...lol
You can never go wrong with Chop Suey. I know they got together last year or whatever for a reunion tour but it sucked how they broke up cause I'm sure it would have made for some more great music.
I like this very much and i would like to add the song we played OUT LOUD yesterday when the heath came after 3 days to almost 40 degrees to be washed away by the RAIN (THE CULT, LIVE)
Thunder and lightning - which reminds me of some more good old rock and roll
Here it is:
It looks like we're gonna get a few storms blowing in over in Germany today, so this is very appropriate!
Ich habe gerade gesehen wass der storm angerichtet hat! Meine gute!😲
For a retro throwback, I've got to go with "Roadrunner" by The Modern Lovers. Better than most songs that are released today.
As for a modern masterpiece, I'll go with the first track off of one of my all-time favorite albums. Here's Titus Andronicus with "A More Perfect Union."
Two fine choices! I dig both of these. Love the riff on A More Perfect Union
It is a beautiful discovery that you offer us. I love Steemit because I discover a lot of music. I will follow you because you love the good things
I do post good music too :D, from my point of view
For my retro throwback, I nominate Van Morrison's "Domino," from His Band and the Street Choir (1970)
And for my modern masterpiece entry, how about Arcade Fire's "Modern Man," from The Suburbs (2013).
Van the Man - always a pleasure to his work!
I love a bit of Arcade Fire as well - a really inventive band.
Don't forget to re-Steem for valid entry!
Done! Thanks for the reminder!
throwback Candy by Iggy Pop -
Modern Carolina Drama by Jack White on Jack White Accoustic recordings
Thanks for taking part!
I'd not heard Jack White song, but its very cool!
glad you enjoyed
jack White!!!
If He would have lived in the 90s where good music was still appreciated... He'd be a god :)
