Este fue su primer single después de su salida del sello discográfico Motown a principios de año, esto después del lanzamiento del álbum In Our Lifetime el año anterior. Se encuentra en el puesto N°233 en la lista de la Revista Rolling Stone de las 500 Mejores canciones de todos los tiempos.

Gaye acumulaba una gran colección de material pornografía, muchos de sus amigos lo veían como un adicto a la pornografía. Ritz, al notar la colección le dijo a Gaye que necesitaba algún tipo de "Curación Sexual". Al escuchar esto Marvin le hizo escribir algunas palabras que terminarían convirtiendose en la letra de la canción.
