Kwaito is a music genre that emerged in Johannesburg, South Africa, during the 1990s. It is a variant of house music featuring the use of African sounds and samples.

Nkhalakatha means "top dog." A word often used in townships as street lingo referring to someone who is highly regarded in the circles he/she moves in.  Due to various factors, the word Nkalakhatha was adopted by the youth to name someone who is regarded as a 'boss'

He began his solo career in 1999 and became a well known artist in South Africa. Most of us will remember the Kwaito king for the contribution he made to the South African music industry.    He was the one man that could make all South Africans dance to the tune of one song. He was loved by white, and black South Africans from all walks of life.

Mduduzi Tshabalala was born in Soweto- Johannesburg- South Africa in 1978.  He took his stage name from a popular cartoon character from the nineties. Fat dog Mandoza.  He began his solo career in 1999 and became a well known artist in South Africa.  We would remember him for the contribution he made by singing the song Nkhalakatha. Mandoza sadly died this week on 18 September. Please listen to this song and help us remember.

Mandoza wherever you are,  I know that you are now dancing and singing with the angels.(With a bit of kwaito:)
