Taylor Swift's fans in Edinburgh danced so hard it was registered as seismic activity. According to the analysis of seismograph data of the British Geological Survey (BGS), the national earthquake monitoring agency of the United Kingdom; Taylor Swift's record-breaking concerts in Edinburgh are now scientifically recognized as "ground shaking", with earthquake measurements detected up to 6km from the venue.

British Geological Survey (BGS) shared Taylor Swift seismograph data from its X account and made the following statement;

Quake it off! Seismometers around Edinburgh were triggered by the rapturous Taylor Swift crowds at Murrayfield Stadium over the weekend. Source

BGS monitoring stations around Edinburgh recorded seismic activity caused by Taylor Swift concerts, and each of the three evenings followed a similar seismographic pattern; "…Ready For It?", "Cruel Summer" and "champagne problems" caused the most significant seismic activity each night. BGS's seismograph data shows that the most enthusiastic dancing occurred on Friday night, when she sang "…Ready For It?".

Seismographic data summary

  • The seismic activity from the concert was detected at two monitoring stations, the furthest of which was 6 km away at the BGS office in the Lyell Centre
  • The activity was mainly generated by fans dancing in time to the music and reached its peak at 160 beats per minute (bpm) during ‘…Ready For It?’, where the crowd was transmitting approximately 80 kW of power (equivalent to around 10 to16 car batteries)
  • Based on the maximum amplitude of motion (the distance the ground moves), the Friday night event was the most energetic by a small margin, recording 23.4 nanometres (nm) of movement, versus 22.8 nm and 23.3 nm on the Saturday and Sunday respectively

Taylor Swift is undoubtedly a great singer, and she gives excellent performances especially in her concerts. Also, her team is very good. She is able to interact and impress her fans with her excellent performance at her concerts, so the seismographic data is not surprising. I went to a Taylor Swift concert before and the immediate area around the concert venue was literally shaking.

As far as I know, it is not legal to share videos of her concerts in Edinburgh, so I will not share them, but I have listed the videos of the songs mentioned above below.

Taylor Swift - …Ready For It?

Taylor Swift - Cruel Summer

Taylor Swift - champagne problems

Enjoy the music and stay with Love
