The Supremes - Stop! In The Name Of Love

Lyrics

[Intro]
Stop in the name of love
Before you break my heart

[Verse 1]
Baby baby, I'm aware of where you go
Each time you leave my door
I watch you walk down the street (Baby, baby, baby, baby)
Knowing your other love you'll meet (Baby, baby, baby, baby)

[Pre-Chorus]
But this time before you run to her
Leaving me alone and hurt
(Think it over)
After I've been good to you
(Think it over)
After I've been sweet to you

[Chorus]
Stop in the name of love
Before you break my heart
Stop in the name of love
Before you break my heart
Think it over
Think it over

[Verse 2]
I've known of your, your secluded nights
I've even seen her, maybe once or twice
But is her sweet expression (Baby, baby, baby, baby)
Worth more than my love and affection? (Baby, baby, baby, baby)

[Pre-Chorus]
But this time before you leave my arms
And rush off to her charms
(Think it over)
Haven't I been good to you?
(Think it over)
Haven't I been sweet to you?

[Chorus]
Stop in the name of love
Before you break my heart
Stop in the name of love
Before you break my heart
Think it over
Think it over

[Verse 3]
I've tried so hard, hard to be patient
Hoping you'll stop this infatuation
But each time you are together (Baby, baby, baby, baby)
I'm so afraid of losing you forever (Baby, baby, baby, baby)

[Chorus]
Stop in the name of love
Before you break my heart (Baby, think it over)
Stop in the name of love (Think it over, baby)
Before you break my heart (Ooh, think it over, baby)

[Outro]
Stop in the name of love
Before you break my heart
Stop in the name of love
Before you break my heart

The Supremes were an American girl group and a premier act of Motown Records in the 1960s and the most successful American vocal band of the 60s. Their breakthrough is said to have made it possible for future African-American R&B and soul musicians to find mainstream success. "Stop! In the Name of Love" is a rousing, shufflin' pop-blues romancer about someone who warns their lover to go a little slower. "Stop in the name of love / Before you break my heart (Baby, think it over) / Stop in the name of love (Think it over, baby) / Before you break my heart (Ooh, think it over, baby)". It is about the wail of a gal who was cheated on by her lover but still does not want to lose her lover. By the way, Lamont Dozier said he came up with the idea for "Stop In the Name of Love" after his girlfriend caught him cheating at a motel.
