Synthwave For Chilling In Fall
Fall is here and unless you've been living under rocks, like me, you've probably heard of synthwave.
Synthwave is a future-retro genre of good ole 80's new wave, synth heavy music. It's pure nostalgia for me of my time growing up in the 80's, neon lights, sci-fi & Japan. It also makes for great background music while typing away on HIVE.
I was first introduced to synthwave by Timecop1983's "Static" feat. The MIdnight. In my opinion it's one of the best, well rounded synthwave tunes out there.
While in Kyoto I wanted an album to help imprint my experience there so I downloaded an older EP of his called "Waves" and listened to it constantly when I went out. It was perfect for Kyoto, blissful with a twist of melancholy like this tune "Closer".
I'll probably do a video synthwave video of the videos I shot around Kyoto.
Recently I've found another guy I really like, Karl Casey aka White Bat Audio. He makes a ton of tunes, synthwave, retrowave, spacewave, etc. While his tunes aren't as hit material as Timecop1983, they are nonetheless awesome. They have a bit of a low-fi feel of the 80's and I detect a bit of Asian synthwave in his music.
Another cool thing about White Bat is he posts 1hr plus mixes of his tunes on youtube like this one.
Even better though, he let's you use and download all of his songs for free. Of course if you can pay for them and that is ideal, but you don't have to. Here is a link to his BandCamp profile for his discography. https://karlcasey.bandcamp.com/
Now that I've got a car in Tokyo I can't wait to get home, throw some synthwave on during a rainy, winter night and drive around the neon filled streets of Tokyo.
Enjoy your weekend Bladerunners.
