**IMPORTANT TIPS ON HOW TO IMPROVE ON YOUR PIANO SKILLS**

in #music7 years ago

Hello everyone, hope you're all doing very fine. This is actually to those who play musical instruments, mostly the pianist.. I will arrange it according to their difficulties/levels so that you can appreciate it better..

The beginners
For you who is just learning how to play the piano, there are things you need to understand as you learn... It's not actually about just jumping into the piano and start playing. You need to:

  1. Learn and understand the theories. This involves understanding some musical terms E.g knowing what a key, note, tone/semitone (whole and half step) is, learning chords (basic chords) and their names, knowing some important scales their names and how to use or apply them..
It also involve knowing how to number your fingers and notes on the piano E.g your thumb down to your little finger is numbered 1,2,3,4,5..

2)Be aware that you can't learn something overnight. Learning the piano requires a whole lot of PATIENCE. You actually start with getting what you want to learn accurately and slowly before you can develop the speed. Starting with speed doesn't take you anywhere.

3)Don't be carried away by what you've learnt and perfected. The reason why alot of pianists dont improve is because they always play what they've perfected whenever they are on the piano.. When you're done with an exercise (no matter how nice what you're playing sounds), move on to learn something new.

  1. PRACTICE NEW SKILLS. What actually determines your growth is how well you practice new things on the piano.

5)Respect those who are better than you. If u don't, they won't teach you what they know.

  1. Don't allow your not having a piano be an excuse for not improving. If you don't have a piano, you can borrow one or you can occasionally go to your church or anywhere a piano is to learn. The truth is, if you really want to learn, nothing can stop you except you.

The intermediates
One of the major problems with intermediates is growth. They get stuck somewhere with nothing new to learn. Sometimes they feel relaxed.. I hope this will help you

  1. Go out for music concerts and watch those who are better than you. This will at least create an impression that there's still work to be done. Also meet with great minds and create relationships with them.

  2. Always listen to new songs and score them. I mean listen to songs with complex chords and scales and learn them..

  3. Apply the things you've already learnt. There are some chords, scales, progressions and movements we know but we don't know how to apply them to songs making it useless.. Try and apply them to your playing.

  4. Go online and download videos on a topic u need to learn, or on a song that you can't score.

  5. In every conversation with someone new, always be the student first and not the teacher. Pianists sometimes want to show off when they meet their fellow pianist who is new to them, and at the end they get nothing from the conversation because, they were talking throughout without any effective listening. No matter how good you are, always be the student first before being a teacher. That's the only way to can learn something new.

The experts and professionals
There's actually no tip for this level because they have attained a whole lot with nearly nothing new to learn. 1)Anyways, there's always something new to learn. So just keep improving on your skill.

  1. Be humble.. Your skill can become worthless just by being proud, arrogant and also with a bad attitude.

I hope these tips help someone out there.. I want to thank steemit for creating this platform.. Thanks alot.
