More Great Hard Rock Albums of 2017

in #music6 years ago

here are 5 more of my favorite rock albums from 2017. If you loved any of these albums, or have some recent favorites of your own, let me know in the comments!

Mastodon- Emperor of Sand
I was not too impressed when I first heard this. As time went on, I was more blown away with every spin. It is a concept album about facing fear and death. Bleak to be sure, but realized through meticulous musicianship and unending drive. Mastodon continues to set the standard for experimentation within psychedelic progressive fuzz.

The Fritz- Natural Mind
With their 2nd album, the Asheville funk masters produced a dance masterpiece. It was one of the best studio albums on the jam circuit and loads of fun for your earholes. Go see them live if you can!

All them Witches- Sleeping through the War
This album really takes the heaviness and darkness around us and turns it on its head. If you’re feeling hopeless about the future, this may be just the thing to get your self-confidence back. The band seems to have a knack for reflecting your thoughts back to you. Beautiful from beginning to end.

Elder- Reflections of a Floating World
Released in June, this album paved the way for the future of stoner, doom, progressive and rock all at once. Every listen provides something new. It’s like you’ve been transported into a musical landscape where nothing is off limits. Hearing color? Seeing sound? Sure! I highly recommend headphones and mind expansion for this journey. It’s not always a smooth ride, but then again, what is?

Primus- The Desaturating Seven
Though panned by critics, I found this album to be a refreshing return to form by the original lineup. About time they got back to their true psychedelic alternative rock roots.

Sort:

I really like Emperor of Sand as well, but I liked it from the very first time I listened to it. It's much more accessible and catchy than their early work, especially Remission (which is nonetheless a great album).

Ha! The first time when I have heard about a band called Mastodon was 12 years ago. I got a Meinl Cymbals booklet from a music store and there was a note about Mastodons drummer. I have checked them out some time later but was not impressed. But somehow I gave them a second chance this month and they are great! I was watching Ola Englunds FAQ yesterday and he was talking about them. And today another one talking about Mastodon :D Laws of the Universe are truly interesting...
