Great Hard Rock Albums of 2017
I recently posted some of my favorite Rock albums from the past year, but I thought I would go back a little further and do 2017 as well. If you loved any of these albums, or have some recent favorites of your own, let me know in the comments!
Power Trip- Nightmare Logic
An album of unapologetic, violent spew in a year that desperately needed it. This is the album that a teenage Pantera would have made if there hadn’t been hair metal. You can smell the sweat and anger in this.
Boris- Dear
Originally planned as their swan song, Boris exited the studio with almost 3 albums worth of material. After trimming it down, this is the result. An album of tight, concise, heavy and exhilarating noise. It is not for the meek. May the gods of experimental doom continue to reign another 20 years.
King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard- Murder of the Universe.
These weirdos released 5 albums in 2017. FIVE! This is my favorite of them. Experimental, psychedelic, schizophrenic and yes....weird. Think Flaming Lips meets Melvins meets Hawkwind. They’ve been a favorite of the stoner scene for years. Pitchfork is now taking notice.
Queens of the Stone Age- Villains
Josh Homme is an enigma. You just don’t know what he’s gonna do next. This album feels as if he’s releasing his inner spoiled brat to the world, but all for the best. A fun album from start to finish. My favorite since Songs for the Deaf.
Sasquatch- Maneuvers
On their 5th album, these guys resigned themselves to the fact they’ll never make it big. They sound like they don’t give a damn. The purest rock album on this list. Play it loud and watch your speedometer!
Power Trip was a just nice Thrash for me. Perfect.
