Blues was created by African-Americans in early 20th. It is considered as folk music which was born in Mississippi delta. Northerner than New Orleans, the motherland of the jazz. They both still influence on each other.

The blues is always about the mood. Blues mood is about thinking of something sad and frustrating. If you’re get fired - you’ve got the blues. If your girlfriend left you - you’ve got the blues.
There no music genre to express the feeling and emotions better than blues.

Delta blues

Delta Blues is the earliest blues style. It is named “Delta” because of place where it was born - Delta of Mississippi. Originally played on acoustic guitar and harmonica. Themes of songs are mostly about love and hard life of African-Americans in early 1920-30th. Blues has own scale structure that contains “blue” note which gives special tone to the genre.

Delta blues artists: Son House, Muddy Waters, John Lee Hooker, Robert Johnson.

Chicago blues

Blues has spread from south to middle west, and after coming to Chicago, Delta Blues became electronic (usage of electric and bass guitars instead of acoustic guitars as it used to be). 10 years later was created the Rock and Roll and R&B which are blues-based.

The difference between Delta and Chicago blues is that Delta artists played the guitar and singed by themselves, when Chicago artists used drums, bass guitar and piano with saxophone (jazz influence).

What about modern blues?

Nowadays Blues is definitely not as popular genre as rap, rock and pop.
People say it sounds so melancholic. And they are particularly right. Slow-tempo music will make you feel something deeper, something you never know so you can’t describe it. Lyrics that herd once can’t be forgotten later. Blues is a little underrated genre but it still exist.

Blues is not about the money. Blues is about the soul
