Grand Tapestry
Yesterday, while crawling my playlists on soundcloud, I heard a song called ATMA. I decided to look further into the artist and their music and found myself rekindling my old love for Hip Hop again. It had been a long time since I'd last listened to an album that actually brought me to tears, So I've been sharing it with everyone I know and that means YOU TOO!
Marrying hip-hop with classical Indian music, the group called "Grand Tapestry" is composed of three parts; Eligh (independent rapper and producer from Los Angeles) on main vocals, Alam Khan (the son of the late legendary Maestro Ali Akbar Khan) on the 25-stringed fretless instrument called the sarode, and Salar Nader on the Indian drum known as the tabla.
My personal top three favorite songs from this album are:
- Champion (feat. The Grouch & Eamon)
- Fall Away
and - Free Session One: The Bird (Featured above on soundcloud)
I think the first two are the most easily likeable to the average listener, while employing very meaningful lyricism. The last of these, Free Session One: The Bird is my favorite because I think that this song not only because of the great lyrical skill demonstrated by Eligh, but because of the consistent references to the ruling power of language and symbology!
Anyways, I hope you all enjoy this album! Let me know if you have an recommendations for related artists!
