Cross Genre Covers

A great song is a great song and switching up the style can make it even better. This week I give to you five cover songs that crossed music genres. The artist, the cover song then the original artist in parentheses will be listed: artist, song, (original artist).

Throw Rag, Tonight the Bottle Let Me Down (Merle Haggard)
Probably not one of the more know Merle Haggard songs but still a great song that Throw Rag turned into a great cover. Throw Rag, a punk band from the desert of California, does an amazing cover with the help of Lemmy.

Social Distortion, Ring of Fire (Johnny Cash)

A classic song performed by the Man in Black covered by another California punk band.

Johnny Cash

Yoav, Where is Your Mind (the Pixies)
To break away from punk bands doing country covers I give you Where is Your Mind by Yoav. Heard the original version by the Pixies at the end of Fight Club and the Yoav cover with Emily Browning from Sucker Punch

Johnny Cash, I Won’t Back Down (Tom Petty)

In another change of pace of covers a rock song being covered by the Man in Black.

Richard Cheese, People=Shit (Slipknot)
A lounge band cover of heavy metal song. First heard Richard Cheese doing a cover of Down with the Sickness on Dawn of the Dead. Since hearing this cover I have picked up on different lounge bands that do the same, covering songs from AC/DC to Slayer. Most people don’t pick up on it because of the change in tempo and pitch.

Bonus: Rob Zombie, Blitzkrieg Bop (the Ramones)
