Much like the first single "The Doomed" this song is straight criticism of the current political environment in the United States. We have a constant string of spontaneous gun violence, and the accompanying "thoughts and prayers" from fanatic 2nd amendment activists and politicians.
This is also a statement against the social media "thoughts and prayers" activists where such a statement is more about posturing as highlighted also here:
The lyrics spell it out quite clear: Thoughts and Prayers are adorable, but worth about nothing in this time when what we need is action.
