ALBUM REVIEW - AVRIL LAVIGNE - HEAD ABOVE THE WATER
While many of you, and me either, were dazed by MTV which was transmitting
This is how your reminds me or while we were firstly approaching to big
marvel movie serie with Spiderman, a 17 yo canadian cutie was releasing her
biggest single track "Sk8er boy". I'm talking about Avril Lavigne.
She has alwasy been a name in the punk rock scenario since her relesead that single but unfortunately during last years she totally disappeared due to Some public announcements that have been made public such as her breaking up
with Chad Kroeger (Nickelback frontman) and most of all due to her Lyme's Syndrome an infective disease which may lead to neurological or cardiological complications.
This is why, i think, we were all looking forward to see her again on the stage and paradoxically in this hard times she finds a truly inspiration for
performing her new album called Head Above Water.
This might result hard to say, but i think that hard times really makes us stronger and with the word Stronger i mean more humble, resilient and we might discover that we are able to carry much weight that we could expect, and, in the meantime we experiences emotions and feelings that we can't totally cares about while we are "UP-Moody" as i commonly say.
So in my opinion this happened to Avril Lavigne as well, and her last new effort might be a proof. As a matter of fact, this album is no more characterized by electrical guitars or bass but her voice is framed
by piano, cello and violins as indicating that she feels more fragile and that choose to express herself with more gentle sounds and melodies.
The album looks like a sort of private diary of what her experienced during her illness and often highlights the psychological substain of her family and her large faith.
As April explained the day after the album release:
I thought I would not do it, i felt like drowning and,
while my mother hugged me tightly, i prayed to God to help me keep the head
out of the water ".
Easily to individuate some autobiographical signs in her track list, such as Tell me it’s over or It was in me but suddenly she pulls out the claws
with Bigger WoW and Dumb Blonde featured by an unexpected Nicki Minaj, (two pretty different types of blondies huh?...), but, apart from that duet
i'm glad to still individuate in those track the rebel vans-shoed Avril.
She appears also as producer of the album in combo with the well-known producer Stephan Moccio (Wrecking BalL by Miley Cirus), a sign that she is still inside the "important" music world.
I can say that the album states a sort of new version of the canadian girl might facing a less "wayward" future but still crowded of deep resonances
more "mature" due to aging and life events.
Hoping this Head Above Water will be the first of a long series of success, i invite you all to have a listen to this new album where she present herself
to the world in a new softy version but still angry and upstream.
Enjoy!
My fav track
