Buying your first guitar

Playing instruments perfectly, require a lot of practice and hard work. One of the most common instrument in the music industry is Guitar. Guitars are used extensively in music game, you might listen to some strumming or a lead or just in the background of a track.For music producers it is an extremely important instrument for making music due to its unique sound.

Types of guitars

Guitar can be of many shapes and sizes and of different types, some of the most common guitar types are:

1. Acoustic Guitar (Steel strings and nylon string)
2. Electric Guitar
3. Semi Acoustic Guitar

Since you are a beginner my advice would be not go with an electric guitar, i would advice you to stick to the steel string acoustic guitar if you are a beginner(a semiacoustic guitar would be just fine as well). Nylon string is usually preferred for classical style of music.

Few points to be considered before investing your money in your first guitar

Structure :

Structure of the guitar refers to the shape and size of the guitar, it may be a full sized guitar or medium size or a small sized guitar. Initially for beginners i would recommend medium or small size guitar(usually for children) as full size are a little tricky to handle for beginners.

Price:

Since you are starting out in the guitar world i would recommend buying a medium range or a low range guitar and not to invest too much in bigger brands. We will surely invest in big players as our level rises.

An electric guitar is shown in the above pic. Electric guitars are expensive so i wouldn't recommend these to those starting out in the guitar game.

Feel:

If you are buying your first guitar from a retail store(which i would recommend) then this point that is the feel of the guitar is crucial. Some of the guitars will naturally be comfortable in your hands while some won’t. So go with your instinct and comfort and don’t worry too much about the brand, since its your first. If it feels comfortable then go for it. Always remember since its your first guitar it should feel good in your hands, if it doesn’t you might lose your interest in playing. So pay extra care to this point while making your choice.

Location

In some countries you will find ton of music retailers and manufacturers while in some other countries this number is quite small. In my country (India), I’ve seen people mostly buying instruments from online websites since the variety is much more vis a vis retail stores. So if you live in a country, where you can easily locate decent music shops then definitely give them a shot.

Playing guitar is really fun once you get a hold of it, i would recommend all music lovers to try it out, it may seem difficult at first but with your practice and time you will fall in love with the sound of it.
