Native American Drone Flute Meets Eurorack
This contains two different takes of the same patch with the same flute recorded on two separate days. I utilized my eurorack modular synthesizer to create an ambient backing track to play the flute over. A modular synthesizer is made up of different modules, often from various companies all over the world. Each module has its own unique function. Non of them produce sounds, or at least musical sounds by themselves, it is the physical patching together of modules with cables that allows musical sounds to be generated. In these videos I used a module called Ornament and Crime to provide a slow and evolving harmony. The ornament and crime does not create any sounds on its own in fact it produces no sounds at all. The Ornament and crime is merely provided a voltage to the various voices which controls the pitch they play. Eurorack generally uses the one volt per octave standard. The ornaments and crime is utilizing an internal turing to generate evolving voltages. The turing machine functions by allowing a probability to be set which determines the likely hood of entering a new random value into a sequence of 16 values. if the probability is set to 0 then the 16 not sequence repeats, by having a low probability that isn't 0 a slowly evolving harmony can be generated.
The flute I am playing is a Native American Drone Flute, one of Bob Child's Ugly Boy Flutes.
Drone flutes are double barreled with sound holes over both sides. Thus both sides produce sound, however the left side has no holes and so is always playing the lowest drone note. This flute is in the key of E minor. I have been playing and even making Native American flutes for 14 years, I really enjoy the tone and hope you do to.

really interesting (and nice) sound!
Thanks! It takes a lot of time I’ve to get the flute and modualr synth in tune so o haven’t done this often, but would definetly like to do more.
Pretty good. Very soothing. I prefer the second rendition. YWe can hear the flute better. Keep it up the good work.
Thanks for listening!
