IGLIVISION BIG GIGANTIC
I literally drove through a blizzard and back to make it to the Colorado flood relief benefit show put together in the midst of the torrential disaster that hit our state just a few weeks prior. This day it was snowing in the high country as I drove six total hours to Steamboat from Denver to clean out an old storage unit. The weather was getting worse throughout the afternoon and threats of roads closing, along with a semi-truck that had slid off the side of the mountain pass. Despite the conditions I pushed forward in order to see Big G play at the Fillmore auditorium that same night.
When I arrived just after 9p.m. a number of free tickets were being handed out to people on the street near the box office. Quite the opposite of what I expected. Every one likes to call this term receiving a miracle ticket. I entered the venue to listen to Late Night Radio who is constantly progressing his music into the next level. More of a producer with a hip hop background who has a plethora of original music. The crowd was in tune with every beat and were paying close attention to the performance being put down on the the floor. As a first time viewer I was impressed with the over all image of Late Night Radio a local Denver artist.
Afterwards I took a break and headed outside to get a breath of fresh air. Raw Russ was the next artist on the lineup and little did I know he has played with many other popular artists in the Hip-hop and electronic music scene. He threw down hard for the Denver crowd and had to set the standard for what was to come. I was waiting to hear live drums and saxophone on full blast from Jeremy and Dominic. I got a few pictures of some kids who were spinning poi lights in the back and before you know it the time had come.
Big Gigantic put this show together with Grassroots California, Conscious Alliance and Mayan Holidaze who assisted with raising money to help with relief from the chaotic flooding in Boulder on 9-13-13.. All of the profit made from the merchandise sold along with a portion of the profit from ticket sales would go towards the efforts. Jeremy and Dom had a special guest for one of the first songs. It was the ever so talented David Murphy from STS9. They opened up with some older songs and consistently through the night played banger after banger.. Fire it up, Funhouse, Thinking out loud, Wide awake, Polarize, Upswing, and Limelight for example.
I was so pumped to hear Big G since seeing them last March and the summer before at Rowdytown. The crowd was feeling it tonight and the lights were blazing through the chandeliers hanging from the ceiling. Colorado came out to show love for the relief show as it was announced a few weeks before that Big Gigantic would be playing the night before Red Rocks. This last minute venture to raise money was a great way for the band to show off their talent in a more intimate setting. With a basic setup of just the saxophone and drums.. The visual aspect of the show was a set of screens surrounding Big G and a very colorful display of lights. There were a few new songs played one of them being Blue Dream. The new style is definitely different but I liked it anyways and don't get to upset when it's a new song. In my opinion they played an amazing set and there was a lot of positive energy coming from the stage so I thoroughly enjoyed every minute. Thanks to all the people who showed support that night !!!
