Despacito by Luis Fonsi becomes the most streamed song ever
Summer hit Despacito has become the most streamed track ever, dethroning Justin Bieber's Sorry.
The Puerto Rican reggaeton beat has reached 4.6 billion streams across platforms such as YouTube and Spotify.
The sensual, Latino beat from Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee has been released in both its original form and a remix featuring Justin Bieber.
Despacito, which means "slowly" in Spanish, took the place previously occupied by the Canadian singer, whose Sorry hit had reached 4.38 billion plays.
"Streaming is a connector for audiences worldwide and it has helped my music reach every corner of the planet," Fonsi said.
"Streaming has opened up the possibility of a song with a different beat, from a different culture and in a different language to become a juggernaut of success around the world," said Lucian Grainge, CEO of Universal Music.
The popular summer video is the first Spanish-language song to reach the top since 1996's Macarena, and the video shows Fonsi and Yankee partying at a Latino club.
The song became the source of online jokes about Justin Bieber, when the singer appeared in a viral video singing it aloud at a club and forgetting the lyrics.
