Original Award Winning Song: "Growing Up" by Madeline Horrigan

in #music7 years ago (edited)

"I try to listen to my heart, but it’s hard to, in all the distractions."

My 19-year-old daughter's award-winning song has a lot to say about growing up in this frenetic world, but testifies to resiliency, strength and hope. I am so proud of you, Madeline Horrigan!

Lyrics

All I want is yesterday, but tomorrow is the only day that returns
I don’t feel too bad, but the blisters on my feet they kind of burn

I think that I’m irrational, for busting down that basement door
I feel more like a child, than an adult, than I did before
I try to get a job and save up for a car I mustn’t show
That I just want to float off into outer space
And get out of my head

‘Cause so far, I’ve left so many moments behind
And I think that I’ve lost my mind
But it’s okay, I assume I’ll get it back someday
I try to listen to my heart, but it’s hard to, in all the distraction
There are so many things to keep track of

Oh, oh, oh, I don’t really know
What the hell is going on

I am not quite sure, if I’ve ever really been in love
I wonder where I’ll go, or if I’ll ever really find the one

I don’t like how fast the money drains from my bank account
I don’t know the bands that are the cool bands to talk about
I would rather run get lost in the forest than take the trash out
I just want to run away to Neverland and forget the pain

Well so far, I’ve left so many moments behind
And I think that I’ve lost my mind
But it’s okay, ‘cause I assume I’ll get it back someday
I try to listen to my heart, but it’s hard to in all the distractions
There are so many things to keep track of

So far, I’ve left so many moments behind
And I think that I lost my mind
But it’s okay, I assume I’ll get it back someday
I try to listen to my heart, but it’s hard to in all the distraction
There are so many things to keep track of

See Madeline in a live performance of another of her originals, "Say What You Want to Say" in a cool venue she set up with her musician friends when she spent a school year in Fairfield, Iowa.

And "Goodbye" is one of her first compositions and I think it could really be a hit:
