Synesthesia Review: Watrs - Fountain of You _ _

in #music7 years ago

I'm young with an old soul and the opening to Fountain of You _ _ would suggest that Watrs is more or less the same.

The whole project is very cohesive throughout its runtime. The mood is set from the outset and is carried across all 12 tracks, almost as though you have been transported to a bygone era. When artists try and recreate the 90's era sound they often fail, but Watrs manages to accomplish the feat here.

The entirety of FOY is masterfully produced. What stands out is the quality of each instrumental, no two instrumentals sound the same, but they all carry the same mood. The only gripe I have with FOY is the final mixing and mastering. The vocals sound "too clean" especially considering the heavy 90's feel to the sound. That's just a personal opinion though. The quality is not in question.

Watrs sets out to own the whole FOY on he's own. There's but one feature on it. That feature comes courtesy of Vezz on Can't Sleep. The subject matters range from love to religion, meaning the reliability is there for those who enjoy more emotion in their music. Just as I've stated earlier the clean vocals might take away some emotion and make it sound artificial, but looking past that it's incredible overall.

This was my first exposure to Watrs and I will definitely be keeping an eye on for him at events and looking forward to he's future releases.
