6 of my favourite enchanting Medieval/Celtic bands to dance like a fairy, release your inner leprechaun or feel like a Viking!
Hail fellow Steemians
traveling in time is impossible? Well, at least regarding an acoustic journey back in history, it is definately not!
As some of you might already know: I simply LOVE music! And the times of Vikings, Celtic tribes and knights!
When bad mood hits or I just need some great tunes to feed my inner child's fantasy (who still dreams of being a fairy or a Viking shieldmaiden) I turn up some medieval, celtic or nordic music and dance like I am part of a magical ritual in a forest or prepare for an epic battle.
Let's travel back in time together and dream about castles, enchanted forests, druids and magical rune oracles!
My husband and me cutting our "Thor's hammer"wedding cake in the register office on our Celtic/Viking wedding - a seperate post on that day will follow
1. Faun
A powerful Germanic incense mix
As the band comes from Germany, they sing mainly in German. If you aren't from this country, this is the perfect oportunity to listen to my native language and enjoy the sound of some beautiful old instruments!
2. Eluveitie
My Eluveitie T-shirt
Oh how I love Eluveitie! The pagan metal band from Switzerland will never get boring to me. Even after years of listening to their songs again and again, they still give me the goosebumps and make me feel like walking through magical forests, dancing in the rain with the old golds and fighting epic battles!
They tell about the stories, traditions and life of the „Helvetii“ a Celtic tribe that lived in today's Switzerland and South-West Germany. The songs are in English and a reconstructed form of the Helvetian Gaulish language which sounds simply stunning!
3. Wardruna
I love my runes so much
This amazing band from Norway uses some very old and authentic instruments from the Viking area. Their goal is to keep nordic spirituality, wisdom and the runes alive. And that's exactly what it sounds like! No band I have listened to before made me feel back in the age of nordic conquerors and celebrating Odin and the mystic atmosphere of this time more than Wardruna.
Their songs are true treasures for Viking lovers like me and I can't tell you how I get enchanted by their tunes!
Some of you might already know them as they made some of the soundtrack for the series „Vikings“!
4. Omnia
I want to learn how to play my celtic tin whistle
Omnia from the Netherlands will definately make your feet dance! Flutes, drums, didgeridoos, harps, hurdy gurdys and more combine to vivid, mystical and energetic stories that tell you about a time back in history that we all wished to live in as kids!
Release your inner fairy or warrior!
5. In Extremo
Yes, we even do have a sword as decoration in our home!
You love the middle Ages and rock music? Then you have got two very good reasons to listen to the German medival-rockband In Extremo! Besides their German songs they also have some in other exciting languages such as Islandic, Latin and Swedish.
A lot of their tracks are actually modern versions of old medieval songs from around Europe!
6. Saor Patrol
A book full of Celtic wisdom
I know Saor Patrol from a very big medieval festival in Germany. When I first listened to their melodies, I was overwhelmed by the power in them, the stories they tell without words and the authentic vibes they spread.
Saor Patrol are from Scotland and their biggest wish is to keep traditional Scottish music alive and make people enjoy and dance to it! All members of the band are part of the „Clanranald Trust For Scotland“, a non-profit organisation which made it their mission to spread and preserve the Scottish culture and wisdom.
The money they get for their shows is used for the authentically rebuilded Scottish medieval village „Duncarron“! Isn't that super cool and one more reason to support them?
Flogging Molly's always been my favorite Irish(ish) band, but thanks for sharing a lot of new music to look into. I've always liked the rhythms of the more Celtic influenced groups. :)
Oh yes, Flogging Molly is great!! :)
The Irish vibes they spread are just amazing! <3
You're most welcome dear @vaughndemont :)

I also love the rhythms of Celtic influenced groups. There so much vitality, happiness and magic in them! <3
