My Evergreen Playlist: I'd rather go blind.
My evergreen playlist track for today is I would rather go blind released in 1968 by Etta James an American singer and songwriter.
Etta James is an exceptional singer who during her time, performed in various genres, including blues, R&B, soul, rock and roll, jazz and gospel.
According to Etta, the song was first headlined by her friend, Ellington Jordan who was in prison when she visited and they co-wrote the song together.
Sing along to the lyrics.
Something told me it was over
When I saw you and her talking
Something deep down in my soul said, "Cry Girl"
When I saw you and that girl, walking around
I would rather, I would rather go blind boy
Than to see you walk away from me child, and all
So you see, I love you so much
That I don't want to watch you leave me baby
Most of all, I just don't, I just don't want to be free no
I was just, I was just, I was just sitting here thinking
Of your kiss and your warm embrace, yeah
When the reflection in the glass that I held to my lips now baby
Revealed the tears that was on my face, yeah
And baby, And baby, I would rather, I would rather be blind boy
Than to see you walk away, see you walk away from me, yeah
Baby, baby, baby, I'd rather be blind now.- Source
I think the lyrics says it all. She would rather go blind than open her eyes to see the love of her life walking away with another woman.
I can totally relate to this song because like any normal human with blood flowing through his veins and who understands what it means to love and be loved, "I will feel hurt too to see someone I love so much walking away from me into the arms of someone else."
I'd rather go blind Anwu m, than to see you walking away from me.
