A drum kit also know as a drum set, drums is a collection of drum and other percussion instruments,that is set up with stands and played by a single player so the player can sit comfortably to play .

This is a sketch of a basic drum kit.
A basic drum consist of a snare drum, hi-hat, hi-tom, middle tom, low tom aka floor tom, crash, bass drum aka kick, ride.
A snare drum is a percussion instrument that produces a sharp saccatto sound when the surface is struck with a drum stick, due to the use of the wire (snare) attached to it from the lower surface. (source)()
Hi-hat also spelled as high-hat is a combination of two cymbals and a foot operated pedal which moves rod that also moves one of the cymblas closer to the other to be able to give different sound.

Hight-tom and middle-tom are cylindrical percussion instrument mostly used for filling in drums. They conote different sounds, from the name the high tom is higher in octave than the middle tom and they give diffrent tones. There are rules for tunning them to give a nice sound, but that wont be posted here (another post).

Floor tom is a cylindrical drum with no snare wires that tend to produce a 'booming' sound. It stands on a three leg clamp.

A bass drum or kick drum, is a large drum that produces a note of low definite or indefinite pitch with no snare wire. It is played by the leg (preferably, right leg) with a pedal.

Crash and ride are cymbals that give a sharp sound mostly played with drum sticks.
