I saw The Vigils( Los Angeles based )and Mystery Actions (Chicago All Female Hardcore Punk) at The Rainbow on the Sunset Strip Monday Night

in #music7 years ago

I took the bus to the Sunset Strip to check out my friends band The Vigils. Sol Del Sur plays bass in this 5 piece classy punk band sax player Jessy Bender, drummer Skeeter Joplin, singer Daniel Cieplinski who plays keyboards as well and Roberto Palazzo on guitar. Roberto also plays guitar in the new Mad Society ,who 35 years ago were a kid punk band based in Los Angeles and recently reformed with original singer Stevie Metz and brother Louie Metz on bass. Mad Society played with the Circle Jerks ,The Plugz ,and some other notable bands of the early 8o's punk scene. The Vigils set was really solid, they all go far beyond just playing there instruments well. They are great performers, moving, dancing ,very expressive. and the singer engages in funny banter with the audience. I was impressed. Opening the show was Mystery Action who have just completed touring with The Buzcocks. They put on a a powerful show with a wall of full speed hardcore punk. The drummer ,small in size ,was pounding ,stylish with drum stick spins and amazing timing. The singer snared harmonies with commanding voice. I've been checking out bands on the Sunset Strip since 1980. I've seen a lot of great shows ,The Ramones,The Cramps,The Circle Jerks,The Weirdos, vigils & myster action.jpgThe Swans,etc......Monday evening at the Rainbow was as great as any of those.VMA.jpg
