Ghost ex-members fired, a long time fan's opinion
If you're a fan of the theatrical rock band Ghost, you might have noticed a recent change in lineup.
This whole article will be an objective look at why this occurred and what there's to learn from it.
Let's take a look at the band from late 2010 to this day
Circa 2010 (First album cicle)
![]
Circa 2014 (Second album cicle))
Circa 2016 (Third album cicle)
Circa 2018(Fourth album cicle)
Allright, the first three lineups look more or less the same, not that you could tell anyways, but the only changes in that period came up, most likely, due to lack of time or health related issues.
Going from the second to the third album tour cicle required a new drummer and bass player, though the 2 guitarists and keyboardist remained the same, and as i stated before: this was a peaceful change.
During the second-last tour with the album Meliora, frontman Tobias Forge started pitching the idea of a lineup change.
The ghouls did not see that coming, not only they didn't get some of the money they were promised for their work, now they were on the verge of loosing their place in a band they helped rise up to what we know it as today.
This is such a big deal because even though masked, these ghouls have a personality that stuck with many fans, some even played on 400+ shows!
This event, probably, made it easier for guitarist Omega to leave for issues with OCD, as he later on announced on video, and for unknown reasons he did not partake in the lawsuit against Forge, though he did testify in favor of the ghouls.
New live lineup for the last Meliora tour!
Alltough this headline may sound happy, it's not. New ghouls show up and play for the last Meliora tour, and as expected, they sound as good as they're being paid. Most of them didn't get the right tone (too much distortion) and the new keyboardist had to use playback for some solos... Terrible!
New album, newer lineup and pop music
This is where the banter stops, and everything finally makes sense. Forge wanted to be a pop-star! of course, now getting rid off the old members who probably wanted a heavier rock approach makes sense.
The need for live backing vocals now justifies the whole new lineup, and as much as i wanted ghost to be the same band it was in 2010, it just isn't possible.
Final thoughts
I obviously don't like the new pop approach to ghost, i miss the hard, dark rock originality it had since lost, but i can still appreciate these "new" 80s recycled pop song... So i'll give a listen to the new album for sure.
Wish the old members their best.
