The songs about transcending from youth into adulthood. Though a huge hit for their album, Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness, the song almost never even made it on.

Being one of the last songs of a 28-track triple LP, lead singer Billy Corgan was told the song wasn't good enough to make the cut. Billy insisted the song had good promise and demanded 24 hours to prove to the producer that he could make it work.

He spent the next four hours working out parts and writing lyrics. The following day he recorded it and changed the minds of the producers. The song was the second single released on Mellon Collie.

The album later went on to be nominated for 7 Grammys in 1997 and sell more than 240k units in its first week. Not surprisingly, the album was featured on the Rolling Stone's list of The 500 Greatest Albums of All Time.
