Voyage: A Piece for Saxophone Quartet
This piece of music took a really long time to compose. 2020 was not an easy year for me. I struggled with my mental health and wondered what I was doing with my life. Social isolation from quarantine seemed to hit me really hard (even though I always thought that I was sort of an introvert).
Yet somehow, I do think that the struggle managed to manifest its way into my music. This piece explores all of the emotions that I struggled with, from the feelings that I could achieve what I was trying to do to the mind numbing stasis that made me feel like I was adrift and stuck in an endless ocean.
I am thankful for all of the people that have always shared kind words and supported me through my composing. I do think that, even though this piece will always be reminiscent of a difficult time in my life, it will also be one of those pieces were I know I tapped into who I was more than a lot of other pieces. Additionally, I think that it may be the strongest piece that I've ever composed; it definitely helps that I was working with such an amazing group of musicians.
