Favorite Song Series: This one is from WAY back - Looking Glass - Brandy
This song is one of my very favorite, an early one and still is. I love this song, the singers voice, a mid-range baritone is really what did it for me, the words are really cool, a whaling song essentially. This was really a one hit wonder song, Looking Glass hit it big with this one and really never again and they faded into history. The band originally formed in 1969 at Rutgers College but later two members left. The classic lineup consisted of Elliot Lurie (lead guitar and vocals), Jeff Grob (drums), Larry Gonsky (piano), and Pieter Sweval (bass). The song "Brandy (You're a Fine Girl)" was released in 1972 off the album Looking Glass and went to #1 worldwide. They actually had a followup minor hit, "Jimmie Loves Mary Ann", in 1973. Lurie, who wrote "Brandy", left the group in 1974. The band replaced him and later changed their name to Fallen Angels. The most interesting thing is this band eventually became Starz who had a string of minor hits in the late 1970s. I actually didn't even know this until I wrote this post (from Wikipedia).
The awesome song has recently gained some play time as it is featured in the soundtrack and movie "Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol 2".
Looking Glass - Brandy (You're a Fine Girl)
I hope you enjoyed this post about one of my favorite songs. Rock on!
I still hear this song on the stations they play at work. Up in that corner of the country/Canada it seems that there are a good number of sea songs. I like many of them, although I don't have that tug to the sea that people brought up on it do. Anyway, nice choice. Cheers!
its a big time classic but still one of my very favorite songs of all time.
