MHKmusic update Mar. 27 – Apr. 2steemCreated with Sketch.

in #music8 years ago

I hope you got some rest last week, because #MHKmusic is roaring back with loads of live music! Things were a bit slow with the students being gone and venues taking a break, so the MHKmusic Ambassadors met to discuss how to grow the scene. Expect some big things to be announced in the near future, and in the meantime keep enjoying live local music!

@9:00pm Dance Monkey Dance at Auntie Mae’s

“Dance, Monkey, Dance!” was formed out of the necessity to create. Doug Dicharry spent years honing his chops in a succesful international touring band, but needed to get back to his roots and rediscover his love for playing music. Even while becoming a talented multi-intrumentalist (drums, trombone, trumpet, mandolin, washboard, spoons), he decided to pick up the guitar and has been obsesively writing songs since.

The guitar laid the foundation for what would become the core of DMD, but there was something missing. Doug craved the driving beat created by the drums, so he built the STOMPSTAGE!!! It’s an amplified mobile stage which creates two different unique percussion sounds, boom – crack. With soulful vocals, percussive guitar, loop rigs and the steady stompstage backbeat, he has penned an evolving repertoire of songs about life on the road, zen, and the mysteries of death.

Dance, Monkey, Dance is the perfect name, because this monkey is literally dancing while playing for you!

@9:00pm Julian Davis & The Hay-Burners at Auntie Mae’s

From humble beginnings, Julian Davis is a 17-year-old, flatpicking guitarist phenomenon and singer from Pittsburg, Kansas. He walks, talks, sings and looks like someone straight out of the 1940s or 50s, and his fast and fiery guitar playing encourages even seasoned professionals to want to step up their picking game.

Julian left home at an early age to play music on the road, traveling to cities all over the country. He currently calls the Lawrence and Kansas City areas home.

His high energy show is one you absolutely can’t afford to miss, including hot fiddle playing from either Shannon O’Shea or Dylan Hawf, special guests and plenty of acrobatic stunts and stage antics from his upright bass player, Seth Campbell, who brings rockabilly, jazz and classical influence to the mix while also singing.
