BLACK MUSIC IS MEANING AND RYTHM

in #music7 years ago (edited)
That afternoon we were sitting on the bed watching a small TV and joking with mom and dad. The TV was showing us some programs of interviews and entertainment; nothing that drawed our attention. We remember that daddy took the control and put MTV. They use to love that channel (and we both too). We grew watching series as Daria, Happy Tree Friends, Celebrity Death Match, Beavis and Butthead, MTV Soul, MTV Hits, Scarred, Ren and Stimpy...among others (Also, we use to love Cartoon Network). However, we never would imagined that, at that moment, our existance or the course of our lifes would change forever.

We were staring at the screen watching carefully and astonisehd. Suddenly, we realised that our parents were looking us and beaming. Dad pronounced with jocularity: "I knew you would like it" And then he turned his head toward our mom. Seems like they were expecting to long to showed us that. But, to not get in details, we were totally impress and shocked. The man in the screen was dancing so good. Every move he made was funky, the rythm in his body, his walk, his movements. He twisted his body, scream, laugh..everything. We never saw something as electrifying and stimulating as that.

-What is that?-we asked

-Is soul, sweethearts-they answered

Soul. Everything changed with that word. Afterwards, while we were following every move he made, every word, every note, his energy, his attitude... we met one of the best black musicians in the world. Mr. James Brown. And, after 13 years we found the video that introduced us to this amazing world.

We got trapped by that new, explosive, energy and amazing world. And after Mr.James Brown, we met our most meaninful and substantial influence in our career as musicians. Our favorites songs of him are: Superstition, Living for the city, Master Blaster, Part time lover, My cherie Amour, I Just Called to say I love You, among others. Yes! The master Stevie Wonder. He is amazingly smart, beautiful voice and PERFECT! We love him, and we hope to meet him one day.

Of course, to not make this tiresome we decided to mention just one of the gods of the soul music that are guiding us in this world! We put James Brown at first because we met him first. Then, we have our bigest influencer! Now we want to make a list with some of our favorites artist. Starting with Etta James, Amy Winehouse, Aretha Franklin, Billy Paul, Ray Charles, Whitney Houston, Baby Huey, Destiny's Child, Marvin Gaye, Barry White, Bill Withers, Michael Jackson, Ben King, Donna Hathaway, BB King, Labelle, Diana King, Janis Joplin, Donna Summer, Nina Simone, Noora Noor...

We like a lot some modern artist too, but we wanted to dedicate this post to the old artist.

I guess music, particulary the blues, is the only form of schizophrenia that has organised itself into being both legal and beneficial to the society
