Murali deora chowk
Murli Deora Chowk is a prominent junction in Mumbai, named in honor of the late Congress leader Murli Deora. Situated at the intersection of Vinay K. Shah Marg and Dorabji Tata Marg, it lies between the Trident Hotel and the National Centre for the Performing Arts (NCPA) in the bustling Nariman Point area.
The chowk was inaugurated on January 9, 2015, in a ceremony attended by notable figures, including then Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley. During the event, Jaitley remarked that dedicating a chowk in one of Mumbai's busiest areas was a fitting tribute to Deora, highlighting his ability to foster relationships across party lines.
Murli Deora began his political career in 1968 as a corporator in the Mumbai Municipal Corporation and later served as the city's mayor. He was elected to the Lok Sabha multiple times from the Mumbai South constituency and held the position of Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas during the UPA-I government. Additionally, Deora served as the president of the Mumbai Congress for 22 years.
Today, Murli Deora Chowk stands as a testament to his enduring legacy and contributions to Mumbai and the nation.
