Wakefield (2017) starring Bryan Cranston
Howard Wakefield is a successful lawyer. He has a beautiful wife, twin daughters, a good home, but ... But it's not really that simple. In the evening, returning home, he notices a raccoon. After chasing him, Howard enters the garage and discovers that his house is perfectly visible from the garage. He sees that no one is interested in his absence, and his wife throws out his dinner.
He understands that his wife will not believe him that he spent the evening alone and after a while, Howard falls asleep. In the morning, he decides not to return home and work, but spend all the time in the garage, watching the neighbors and family, accompanying these observations with caustic comments.
From time to time we saw the news "The husband went out to smoke and did not return," "He went out for bread and did not return," etc. If I am not mistaken, then it is common in Japan or Korea to leave the house like this, when public opinion and censure are heavily burdened by the man because he was fired from his job. He is afraid of appearing to his family and neighbors and therefore leaves home.
Howard Wakefield did not go far, settled next to his family. At first, I was wondering what it would all end. He observes and understands that he is not so important for his family. The wife is able to throw out the garbage and take the children to rest. Children are happy without him. All this painfully hits his self-centered ego. He is not capable of sympathy, does not understand the problems of his wife and children. The whole world must revolve around him. He laughs with pleasure, watching a sad wife and her mother comforting her daughter.
From time to time we watch Howard's past life and the story of his dating his wife. We see that this is a dishonorable person who simply takes everything he wants. When he gets what he needs, it's no longer interesting for him. It would seem that for a time, lived in the garage, he understands much, but the ending puts everything in its place.
Howard is periodically exposed and this is disgusting. Cranston is already quite an old man and it was unpleasant to look at his body. The image of Heisenberg erased from my memory thanks to the half-naked Cranston.
Bryan Cranston is a terrific actor. I believe him when he wears an expensive suit, and when he staggers around the city in the image of a homeless person. It is unclear whether he went crazy or not. After all, what kind of normal person will put himself in such conditions? The final is open, so there are many things to think out for yourself.
The plot is a fresh story (at least for me), it is interesting to observe such a physical and psychological experiment. I think that many of us were visited by the thought abandoning everything and going into the sunset. Wakefield shows one way how to solve this problem.
