Slumdog Millionaire: interesting (and sad) reality

Despite their local popularity, Indian movies usually don't make it to Western markets. Slumdog millionnaire did, and since it wasn't a musical I liked it.

Jamal is a young man who grew up in the Mumbai slums. He ends up in Who wants to be a millionaire and is set to win the jackpot (20M rupees). However some think he cheated...

Because of the hype (I think it won/was nominated for Best Picture the year it came out), I was skeptical of the movie. But I have to say, it was quite interesting. Through a strange path of circumstances, Jamal knew most of the answers to the questions, despite their "difficulty." We see him grow up in the very difficult life of an orphan who makes many narrow escapes from unscrupulous people.

In short, if your heart is solid (there lacks basic sanitation in some parts), this movie is worth a watch. The scenario is not revolutionary (from rags to riches), but the way it's told is refreshing from a Western perspective.
