Un Chien Andalou - Andalusian Dog

A surrealistic movie

Surrealism

Salvador Dalí is known for his paintings and is the main representative of 20th century surrealism. One of my favorite paintings is The Persistence of Memory. Time flies. Do our memories melt like ice cream in summer? Or does it persist like everyday racism in the subway? Certain childhood memories always stick. Positive as well as negative. Like photography...

Just a short interpretation of my memories, I don't want to go further into the painting. It fascinates me how someone interprets his dreams in a picture and processes them in this way. Normally we go to a therapist, an artist treats himself...

An Andalusian Dog directed by Luis Buñuel

Since Dali is better known for his paintings, I would like to introduce you to this film, where he worked as a screenwriter. An Andalusian Dog was written by Luis Buñuel and Salvador Dalí. First shown in Paris in 1929. It's considered a classic of surrealism and it's simply blatant that the film is still under discussion after such a long time.

The black-and-white film consists of a series of surrealistic images and scenes. The prologue shows a man sharpening a razor, then a cloud passing before the full moon. The man cuts through the eye of a woman sitting in front of him with a razor. The scene was recreated with a cow's eye and arouses primeval fears in all people. source

The film was supposed to provoke the intellectual establishment.

However, the film succeeded to fame.

Conclusion

The film could cause some viewers to feel uncomfortable, even if it's already that old. I find such movies more frightening than any junk today. In the present I can only think of Twin Peaks. A masterpiece.

What do you think about this kind of movies?

I had absolutely NO idea that he made screenplays! Not a huge fan of the horror genre but I’d love to check this out.

It was a dream from the director Buñuel . He wanted to display it on a screen.

Got me I had no idea he experimented film!

I had no idea for ages as well. Then a friend, an artist, told me the story of the movie and then I was blown away...

My brother went to his Museum I am going to ask him if he knew about this film.
