David Fincher on the Current State of Visual Storytelling
Modern cinematic master David Fincher has decided to move his character driven stories to television.
Audiences only show up to the multiplex to watch films that we should describe as social events. These include musicals, superhero films, remakes etc. Movie studios are increasingly investing their time and capital in the aforementioned categories because they have the highest potential for maximum ROI.
Alternatively, streaming services such as Netflix, Amazon Prime and Hulu are in the prime position to provide creators with the financial backing and creative leeway to tell more intricate and compelling stories. Each of these platforms have seemingly endless pockets and a general goal to maximize the number of subscriptions to their service. This makes them willing to spend more money on original, must see content.
