Poetic Television Review: What Are Little Girls Made Of? (Star Trek, S1X09, 1966)

In frozen Exo III's icy grasp,
A tale of humanity's essence clings at last,
A search for Korby, lost in time and space,
Unfolds a narrative of logic's steady pace.

The Enterprise beams down, a crew so fine,
Kirk and Chapel, entwined in love's sweet shrine,
Their footsteps echo through the ancient land,
Where remnants of a civilisation lie in hand.

Korby's vision, a new society to forge,
Androids unencumbered, free from human forge,
Ruk and Andrea, creatures of his design,
Emotionless, yet beautiful, a mechanical shine.

But Kirk thwarts Korby's plans with cunning guile,
And turns the androids against their creator's smile,
A tale of identity, of humanity's core,
Explored through Shatner's dual role, forever more.

Yet pacing issues mar this episode so grand,
Repetitive elements that detract from its command,
A rushed narrative that feels like horror's sway,
Rather than Star Trek's thoughtful storytelling way.

Andrea, a mechanical geisha, objectified and cold,
Her characterisation raises questions old,
Of sexism and representation, a complex test,
But Kirk's nudity serves as equalising jest.

This episode marks a departure from the norm,
Action outside the Enterprise, minimal crew form,
Shatner shines in dual role, his acting prowess on display,
Complemented by Strong's performance as Korby, night and day.

What Are Little Girls Made Of? A solid episode indeed,
Yet falls short of its potential, leaving fans to proceed with speed.
Intrigue and themes abound, but repetitive beats resound,

A mixed bag of emotions leaves this reviewer to ponder.
