Poetic Television Review: Big Girls Don't Cry (The Sopranos, S2X05, 2000)
In twilight's hush, where shadows play,
A world of crime, in darkness sways,
The DiMeo family, with power's might,
Led by Tony, in a fragile light.
He weaves a web, of loyalty and fear,
Promoting favorites, and casting doubt and peer,
Furio, the outsider, with charm and guile,
Proves himself worthy, with a deadly smile.
But beneath the surface, turmoil brews,
Janice's decisions, and Richie's pursuit,
Tony's anger, and frustration's sting,
A sense of inadequacy, his heart keeps singing.
Dr. Melfi's guidance, a lifeline in the night,
A refuge from the chaos, a beacon in flight,
Yet even she, with her own demons to face,
Struggles with her feelings, in a complex, moral space.
The family dynamics, a delicate dance,
Paulie and Silvio, rising to their chance,
Pussy's betrayal, a perceived slight,
Agent Lipari's dissatisfaction, a festering spite.
Christopher's dreams, of screenwriting fame,
Adriana's support, a fleeting flame,
But Method acting's intensity, proves too much to bear,
A violent outburst, and his dreams laid bare.
Big Girls Don't Cry, a title that might seem bland,
But in its depths, a narrative's carefully planned,
A set-up for the chaos, to come and to be,
A glimpse into the world, of Tony and his family.
A world of darkness, where moral grounds are few,
Dr. Melfi's presence, a rare, shining clue,
The episode's shortcomings, a minor flaw,
But its impact, a lasting, cinematic law.
