Poetic Film Review: Good Night, and Good Luck (2005)

In the twilight of the 1950s,
A darkness crept, a sinister haze,
The land of freedom, now a shadowed place,
Where fear and lies did reign, in endless space.

A senator's voice, a cacophony of dread,
McCarthy's name, a curse, a whispered dread,
He spread his venom, far and wide,
A web of lies, a snare, a deadly tide.

Edward R. Murrow, a beacon bright,
A journalist's voice, a guiding light,
He stood against the darkness, unafraid,
His pen a sword, his words a shield, unsaid.

The battle waged, a clash of wills,
Murrow versus McCarthy, truth versus guile,
The world watched on, as freedom's flame,
Flickered and faltered, in the face of shame.

But still, the fight went on, a testament to hope,
A stand for truth, a voice that would not cope,
Though Hollywood's lens, may simplify and bend,
The story of these men, their courage to amend.

For in the end, it's not the win or loss,
But the fight for truth, that will forever gloss,
A stain on history, a lesson to all,
That freedom's price, is courage, standing tall.

So let this tale, be told and retold,
A reminder of the past, a cautionary gold,
That in the fight for truth, we must never yield,
For freedom's sake, we must be bold, and yield not.
