Maggie Carpenter is well known in her local town due to her leaving three men at the alter. She is branded "Runaway Bride" by a city journalist, Ike Graham. The facts of the article are called into question so he rushes to Maggie's hometown so that he will be able to redeem himself and his reputation to report on her upcoming wedding.
He is convinced that she will run again and will confirm his theory that she runs away from any man who is at the alter with the intention to marry her and spend his life with Maggie.
She asks questions to Maggie in order to build a greater understanding of her character before he writes a long article about her. It becomes apparent to Maggie that she doesn't know herself. She doesn't know what way she likes her egg to be done, she always says the same as her partner. This is a moment of her journey to self discovery.
However, Ike ironically starts to develop feelings for Maggie against all odds and now the plot thickens. He now hopes she runs away from the man waiting for her at the alter and instead be with him. At first, it seemed a mystery why so many people were willing to commit for Maggie but he now knows why and wants a chance of marrying Maggie.
