I have to disagree on the "Lack of female appealing character :D because i know lot of people who went for the movie just for Jason Momoa and Henry Cavill, and the movie didin't fail it is just that it failed to meet the set expectations, one factor being the critic bash and the other being lot of scenes being cut off from the movie, it apparently was 3 hour movie which the greedy Warner bros studio chopped down to a 2 hour version to play extra shows on theaters to earn more money, but it backfired.

Building up characters is also not necessary as Batman V Superman got $166 million in the domestic box office in its first week alone with only Man of steel being a prequel, and Suicide Squad even though it was a shit movie made $135 million in domestic box office in its first week with totally unknown characters to the majority.

Storyline was okayish, the problem was bad CGI, generic background score and specifically the digital erasing of Superman beard which was bothering a lot of people who saw the movie.

All of this apart the movie was a really good entertainer which got hell lot of negative reviews especially on rotten tomatoes by critics, RT score is 40% from critics while the audience score on rotten tomatoes is 85% which explains a lot while the movie did not well in the US box office, and in the international box office its doing good too.
